Ravichandran Ashwin, captain of the Dindigul Dragons, has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee following a heated outburst during a Tamil Nadu Premier League 2025 (TNPL 2025) clash against IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in Coimbatore.
Ashwin’s frustration boiled over in the first innings. Coming in as an opener, he scored 18 off 11 balls and was dismissed by left‑arm spinner R Sai Kishore, who trapped him LBW in the fifth over. Believing the delivery had pitched outside the leg-stump, Ashwin immediately approached umpire Venkatesan Krithika to challenge the decision. Replays supported his claim as the ball clearly landed outside the leg‑stump.
But with no DRS available as they had already used it in the fixture, Ravichandran Ashwin had no recourse. What followed was a series of animated gestures. Ashwin argued with the umpire. He hit his pads with the bat in frustration and threw his gloves in anger just before the boundary rope.

Ravichandran Ashwin Fined After TNPL Outburst Over LBW Dismissal
Ashwin’s display of dissent, combined with what officials described as "equipment misuse", resulted in a stiff penalty.
"Ashwin was fined 10 percent for showing dissent towards the umpires and 20 percent for misuse of equipment. He accepted the sanctions," a TNPL official said as quoted to Cricbuzz.
Despite his furious reaction, the Dragons never recovered. After Ashwin’s dismissal, they collapsed from 39/1 to a paltry 93 all out in just 16.2 overs.
In response, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans chased the target effortlessly. Tushar Raheja blasted an unbeaten 65 runs off 39 balls and sealed a nine‑wicket victory in the 12th over.

Ravichandran Ashwin's Mixed Start to TNPL 2025
Ashwin has not quite found his rhythm in the early stages of the TNPL 2025. After a disappointing campaign with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) earlier this year, the seasoned campaigner has had a quiet beginning to his TNPL stint as well.
In the first two outings, Ashwin has scored a total of 33 runs and taken just two wickets. Leading the Dindigul Dragons, the 38-year-old has managed to guide his team to one win from their opening two matches. Dindigul Dragons are currently sitting at the fifth position on the TNPL 2025 points table.
