The BCCI recently announced Shubman Gill as the next Test captain of India. However, one of the major names they missed out on was Ravindra Jadeja. While many names were being considered, one name which was not was Jadeja's.

Jadeja has been among the top all-rounders in Test cricket in the last decade. He is currently the number one ranked all-rounder in the ICC Test rankings. The left-arm spinner has taken 323 Test wickets and has scored nearly 3500 Test runs but was still not considered as one of the options as Test skipper.

The BCCI named Shubman Gill as the new Test skipper with Rishabh Pant named as his deputy ahead of the Test series against England. Meanwhile, Jadeja is part of the Test squad announced for the series.

Mostly Achieved Evertything Else - Ravindra Jadeja

In a special conversation with 'Kutti Stories with Ash', Jadeja opened upto Ravichandran Ashwin on his long cherished dream of Test captaincy. Ashwin also backed his spinning partner on the same.

"Just one thing is left... Test captaincy," he said with a soft smile. "I've mostly achieved everything else, and it is a moment of pride to be Test Captain or lead India" said an emotional Jadeja on the matter of Test captaincy.
"If you become the captain, it will be Diwali at my home... A spinner, my bowling partner, has been made Test Captain" responded Ashwin saying.

The Indian all-rounder further said that captaincy can be learned with time while further adding that an experienced cricketer has a lot more understanding of the game than a youngster.

"Captaincy is something that can be learned with time... But I believe that an experienced cricketer understands the pulse of the game" Jadeja remarked.

Opinions Divided Over Shubman Gill As Test Captain

BCCI's decision to name Shubman Gill as India's new Test skipper had a mixed response within the Indian cricket fraternity. Everyone believes that Gill, who has not yet cemented his place in the Test side should not have been burdened with Test captancy. The BCCI has options like KL Rahul. Jasprit Bumrah alongside Jadeja.
