Virat Kohli's sudden Test retirement has taken everyone by surprise. He announced his decision to retire from Test cricket earlier this month. He announced his decision on May 12 just a few days after Rohit Sharma called time on his Test career as well.

The sudden retirement of Rohit and Kohli just before the England series is a call that surprised any including several former Indian cricketers. However, everyone seemed to have understood why the veterans called time on their Test careers.

Both very much want to play ODI cricket for the country till the next ODI World Cup and hence needs time to focus on the format. With Kohli and Rohit retiring, the BCCI named Shubman Gill the new Test captain ahead of the England Test series and Rishabh Pant his deputy.

Beta Now Its Time - Virat Kohli's Response to Hinaya's Query

Even Harbhajan Singh's daughter seems to be upset to with Virat Kohli's sudden retirement call. In a recent interview, Harbhajan mentioned how his daughter Hinaya wrote to Kohli and asked as to why did he announce his Test retirement.

"I couldn't understand why Virat Kohli took retirement. My daughter said to me, 'Papa, why did Virat Kohli take retirement? I want to message him'. She wrote to Virat Kohli saying, 'I am Hinaya. Why did you take retirement?' Her heart was affected like that. Virat Kohli replied with a laugh saying, 'Beta, now it's time'," shared Harbhajan, as quoted by The Times of India.

Kohli called time on his Test career after playing 123 Test matches and scoring 9,230 runs from 210 innings. He also scored 30 centuries in the format and retired as India's fourth-highest run-getter in Test cricket.

Virat Kohli In IPL 2025

Kohli is currently playing in IPL 2025 where he has played a big part in taking RCB to the playoffs. They will take on PBKS in the Qualifier 1 on May 29 in Mullanpur. He has scored 602 runs in 13 games so far this season.
