Day 3 of the ICC World Test Championship between South Africa and Australia started on a somber note as the players from both teams paid a minute's silence to the lives lost in the unfortunate plane crash in Ahmedabad, India.

In an unfortunate incident on Thursday, June 12, an Air India plane chased in Ahmedabad left 241 people dead. Moreover, the death toll has increased to 265 after it crashed into the hostel of a medical college.

The airline further gave a detailed tally of the passengers who onboarded the flight on Thursday. As per the airlines, among the 230 passengers, 169 were Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese, and one Canadian. The other 12 on board were crew members.

Cricketers Pay Tribute to Lives Lost In Ahmedabad Plane Crash

The unfortunate incident happened on Thursday afternoon when the aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, crashed shortly after taking off from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The aircraft which was going to London crashed near the BJ Medical College within minutes after taking off leading to a huge massacre and loss of lives.

As a mark of respect and pay homage to the lives lost, Australian and South African players were seen wearing black armbands before the match started. The India A and the senior Indian team are also playing a warm-up match. They were also seen wearing back armbands before the start of the match.

Talking about the WTC final, South Africa are yet to bowl out Australia in the second innings. The Aussies on the morning session of Day 3 stretched their lead past the 250-mark as the South African bowlers have found no answers still to Mitchell Starc's defense. Kagiso Rabada dismissed Nathan Lyon very early in the day but since then, Starc and Josh Hazlewood has been frustrating the SA bowlers.

South Africa Looking Forward To Record Chase

South Africa are already looking forward to chasing a record total to win the WTC final. With still two days and two sessions left to be played, South Africa would look to bowl out Australia soon and have enough time in hand for the chase.
