MS Dhoni confirms that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be back leading Chennai Super Kings in 2026 while talking to Harsha Bhogle in the post-match presentation.
Chennai Super Kings ended their season on a dominant note, defeating the table-toppers Gujarat Titans by 83 runs. It was an all-around performance from CSK as their entire batting, bowling, and fielding unit clicked well together, allowing them to finish their season on a high in Ahmedabad. MS Dhoni was visibly pleased with the team’s display and praised their execution across departments
“It was one of those perfect performances in the bowling department and the batting department. We haven't caught very well, but this was one game where our fielding and catching were good.”
Ruturaj Gaikwad Will Continue leading CSK
Dhoni then hinted at CSK’s plans for the future, confirming Ruturaj’s leadership role for next season. He emphasized that the young captain won't have to worry about much and can focus on contributing within the team setup
“But there are a few holes we would like to fill. One of the most important things was when Ruturaj comes back next season, he doesn't need to worry about too many things. He needs to maybe fit in one role from the eleven.”
MS Dhoni also expressed his gratitude for the crowd that turned out in Ahmedabad, although the stadium wasn’t full, he acknowledged the sea of yellow that turned upto to support him and his team one last time this season
"It's good. I won't say it was houseful today, but decent crowd. It's a very big stadium," MS Dhoni said during the post-match presentation.

CSK’s Win Shakes Up the Race for Top Two Spots
CSK’s win added an extra twist to the business end of the season. With 18 points, Chennai’s victory might have denied Gujarat Titans a top-two finish. However, CSK now depends on other results to determine their fate. Three teams RCB, PBKS, and MI are still in contention. Today’s match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians will be crucial, as the winner will likely claim one of the top two spots on the points table.
