Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain Rajat Patidar has achieved a historic feat in the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025), becoming the first captain to lead his team to away victories against Mumbai Indians (MI), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a single season.
Patidar’s remarkable run began at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens, where RCB toppled defending champions KKR. Next, he led RCB to a stunning triumph at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, fondly called Chepauk, ending a 17-year drought against CSK on their home turf.Â
The historic treble was sealed at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, where his explosive 64 off 32 balls powered RCB to a 12-run win over MI, their first at the venue in a decade, as he clinched yet another Player of the Match award.

The 31-year-old from Madhya Pradesh has outdone a rare benchmark set in 2012 by Kings XI Punjab, now Punjab Kings, the only other team to beat MI, KKR, and CSK away in one season. However, that achievement was split between two captains.Â
Adam Gilchrist led the win against KKR, while David Hussey oversaw the victories against MI and CSK. Patidar stands alone as the first to accomplish this trio entirely under his own leadership, making this record even more extraordinary.
Patidar took over the captaincy from Faf du Plessis ahead of the 2025 season, a decision that raised eyebrows given the presence of stars like Virat Kohli in the squad. However, he has silenced critics with his calm leadership and explosive batting. His tactical nous and ability to perform under pressure have been key to RCB’s success on the road.

Interestingly, RCB’s only loss this season came at home against Gujarat Titans (GT), making their away form even more impressive. With three wins in four matches, RCB sit at the third position on the IPL 2025 points table, fueling dreams of ending their trophy drought.Â
