India A & Rest of the India squads for domestic season announced

The Senior Men's Selection Committee has named the India A squad for the three-match One-day series against Australia A, as well as the squad of the Rest of India (ROI) for the upcoming Irani Cup on Thursday, September 25. India A will play their matches in Kanpur, starting on September 30, while the Irani Cup will be played against Ranji Trophy champions 2024-25 Vidarbha in Nagpur from October 01.

Rajat Patidar has been named as the skipper for ROI. The right-hand batter is in sizzling form across formats and has earned the right to lead the ROI after winning the Duleep Trophy for Central Zone. Shreyas Iyer, who has communicated to BCCI about taking a six-month break from the red-ball game, has been named as the skipper for the India A squad for the one-day series against Australia A.

Tilak Varma has been named his deputy for the second and third games. The southpaw will reach India on September 29 after playing the Asia Cup finals on September 28.

Shreyas Iyer's detailed explanation on six-month break from the long-ball format

Note: Mr Shreyas Iyer has informed the BCCI of his decision to take a six-month break from red-ball cricket. Having undergone back surgery in the UK and managed his recovery well, he has recently experienced recurring back spasms and stiffness while playing the longer format. He wishes to utilize this period to build endurance, body resilience, and work on his fitness. In view of his decision, he was not considered for selection for the Irani Cup.
