Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) fans can heave a sigh of relief as their all-rounder Anukul Roy provided a reassuring update on captain Ajinkya Rahane’s hand injury, sustained during their hard-fought 14-run victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match 48 of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025).
The incident occurred in the 12th over of DC’s chase when Rahane, fielding at short cover, was struck on his right hand by a drive from Faf du Plessis off Andre Russell’s bowling. The KKR skipper immediately sought medical attention and did not return to the field, with Sunil Narine taking over as stand-in captain.
Addressing the media post-match, Anukul, who impressed with the figures of 1 wicket for 27 runs, alleviated fears about Ajinkya Rahane’s condition.
"It doesn’t look too serious. He may need a couple of days to recover. The doctors will assess and provide more clarity, but for now, he’s doing fine. He got a few stitches," said Anukul as quoted.
Rahane himself downplayed the injury during the post-match presentation, offering optimism to KKR supporters.
"Not bad. I will be okay. I will be fine," Rahane shared an update on his injury in the post-match presentation.
