"I Couldn't Be More Proud" – James Anderson on Being Honoured Alongside Sachin Tendulkar

James Anderson The Hundred

The Pataudi Trophy, which is contested between England and India in Test cricket, has now been renamed the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.

For many years, the iconic series was named after former Indian captain Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. However, in the past month, the England and Wales Cricket Board officially retired the Pataudi Trophy.

The test series will now carry a new title, the ‘Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy named in honour of legends Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson for their immense contributions and legacy in shaping the history of the game.

Anderson Hails Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy as a Special Honour

James Anderson has played 188 Test matches for England and taken 704 wickets, the most by any fast bowler in Test history. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar, who played 200 Test matches, holds the record for the most runs in the format with 15,921. Both these legends frequently faced each other in Test cricket, and now they receive the rare honour of having a trophy named after them.

At the DP World event held at Lord’s Cricket Ground, James Anderson spoke about the honour. He called it a truly special moment, especially sharing the accolade with someone he idolised growing up, Sachin Tendulkar.

"It's a huge honour. I still can't quite believe it. Sachin is someone I looked up to when I was growing up, though I don't want to do him a disservice with his age. I remember watching him as an absolute legend of the game, and I played against him a lot as well. So to have this trophy is a huge honour for me, and I couldn't be more proud."

The Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy will be unveiled by both James Anderson and Sachin Tendulkar at Lord's Cricket Ground during the World Test Championship Final starting on June 11. The five-match Test series between England and India begins on June 20 at Headingly Stadium, the first to be played for the newly named Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.
