Punjab Kings Captain Shreyas Iyer Reveals Team’s Success Mantra and Friendship with Ricky Ponting After Defeating Mumbai Indians

Punjab Kings continued their dominant IPL 2025 season by defeating Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets, securing a top-two spot in the points table for the first time in 11 years.

Jos Inglis’ Clutch Knock

Mumbai Indians set a target of 185 in 20 overs, thanks to Suryakumar Yadav's yet another half-century and Naman Dhir's finish at the end. In return, Jos Inglis displayed a typical Aussie clutch innings of 73(42), forming a crucial partnership with Priyansh Arya and Shreyas Iyer, and helped his team chase the target down in 18.3 overs against the mighty Mumbai Indians bowling line-up to secure their top 2 spot in the IPL 2025 points table.

Shreyas Iyer on Team Resilience and Partnership with Ricky Ponting

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Shreyas Iyer shared the key to their success: the team’s ability to win matches from any situation and players stepping up when it matters most.

“I personally feel everyone stepped up at the right time. We have always had the mindset to win no matter what the situation is. Kudos to everyone and the management. Ricky [Ponting] has been fantastic, and for me, it was about earning the trust of every individual. That trust was built by winning games, and it’s something we need to maintain throughout. When you’re down, it’s easy to turn on each other, but we’ve stuck together,” said Iyer.
