India and England players wore black armbands on Day 5 of the Headingley Test to pay tribute to former Indian spinner Dilip Doshi, who passed away at the age of 77 due to cardiac arrest.
India and England Pay Tribute to Late Spinner Dilip Doshi
Dilip Doshi will be remembered for his contributions as a spinner for Indian cricket following the retirement of the great Bishan Singh Bedi, who had led the spin department for India. Doshi played 33 Test matches and picked up 114 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls. Notably, he also took 22 wickets in 15 ODIs that he played for India.
Dilip Doshi also had a strong overseas influence, being one of the first Indian spinners to play for a county team, Nottinghamshire, who also shared their tribute through a social media post, stating that their flag would fly at half-mast in honour of Doshi.

BCCI Pays Tribute to Dilip Doshi
As a mark of respect, the BCCI announced that Indian players would wear black armbands on Day 5 of the Headingley Test, and the board paid its tribute accordingly.
“It is with deep sadness that we learn of the passing of Dilip Doshi. He was a true artist of spin bowling, a gentleman both on and off the field, and a dedicated servant of Indian cricket," BCCI President Roger Binny said in a statement.
"His impact on the game was immense, and he inspired a generation of cricketers with his skill and dedication. His contribution to Indian cricket will always be remembered. We extend our deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and the entire cricketing fraternity during this difficult time."
"Dilip Doshi was a remarkable cricketer and a great human being. His passion for the game was evident in every ball he bowled," added BCCI Secretary Devajit Sakariya.
