Brian Bennett Scored His Second Test Ton

Zimbabwe did not show enough resilience with the bat in the first innings. Opener Brian Bennett scored 139 runs off 143 deliveries and was the only silver lining in the visitors effort with the bat. The likes of Craig Ervine (42 runs off 64 balls), Sean Williams (25 runs off 41 balls) and Tafadzwa Tsiga (22 runs off 49 balls) tried their best but could not back up Bennett's good show. As many as six Zimbabwe batters scored in single digits with three of them scoring ducks.

The England bowlers showed all their prowess with the ball as they hunted for wickets in a pack. Shoaib Bashir took three wickets for 62 runs in the first innings from nearly 17 overs. Gus Atkinson bowled a fiery spell and finished with 2 wickets for 58 runs from 13.1 overs. Ben Stokes, the England skipper, took two wickets for just 11 runs. Sam Cook and Josh Tongue took a wicket each as well.

Shoaib Bashir Went To 50 Test Wickets

Zimbabwe were bowled out for just 265 runs in the first innings falling behind England's first innings score by exactly 300 runs. Thus it was no surprise that England asked the visitors to follow on. In their second innings, Zimbabwe did not have a good start with the bat once again as they lost their centurion from the first innings early. Bennett scored just one run off 10 balls in the second innings. He fell to Gus Atkinson. The second wicket to fall was Craig Ervine, the Zimbabwe skipper who was dismissed for just two runs off 13 balls. At stumps, Zimbabwe were reeling at 30 runs for the loss of two wickets still trailing by 270 runs. England look the firm favourites to win the Test match from here on with it likely to happen on Day 3.
